iii. Dreams of Heaven

Waking from Daydreams is a collection of three songs, each depicting a different stage of romance. It becomes increasingly clear over the course of these songs that the narrator’s projection of an idealized love disguises a more grim reality. As the mirage fades, they cling to their daydreams, reluctant to let go of the joy these dreams brought.

While these movements combine to form a larger narrative, they can also be performed independently.

One Moment More

One moment more, the night is cool,
Let me stay warm here, in your embrace.
One moment more, to savor bliss,
To paint your face, in my dream of you.

Joy, my smile it shines in moonlight.

Walk with me slowly,
In the moonlit night.
A private stroll extends this time with you my dear.
My perfect wander, my perfect evening,
My perfect dream.

One moment more, the night is cool,
Let me stay warm here, in your embrace.
One moment more, to savor bliss,
To paint your face, in my dream of you.

Joy, my smile, it shines in moonlight.

Please dear, walk with me a moment more.

Do You? Smell Those Flowers?

Do you? Smell those flowers?
Do you dream of planting ours?
You’d plant me roses to bloom in the spring,
Replace my field of willowed weeds.

I know that tomorrow, you’ll leave me.
Please let me ignore the clouds, so full of rain.
Let me reminisce about our bloom.

Do you? Smell those flowers?
Do you dream of planting ours?
You’d plant me roses to bloom in the spring,
Replace my field of willowed weeds.

Dreams of Heaven

To wilted flowers, to absent moons
I’ll say goodbye, to the dream of you,
My prayer, my blasphemy.
Blasphemy!
For dare I hope?

I could have gazed at the light of your smile
until my eyes burned and were blind.
Left to stare at the imprint it left me
A fool surprised at suns setting.

Had I known you for longer, I’d be able to find some flaw,
some imperfection to consign you to memory.
A pinch to wake my wand’ring daydreams.

But my dream, you, you glitter like an angel.
A glimpse into some heaven I knew
Just long enough to realize its ending.

To wilted flowers, to absent moons
I’ll say goodbye, to the dream of you,
My prayer, my blasphemy.
Blasphemy!
For dare I hope?

Does my angel think of me?
When you look down on earth?
Do you? My dream?
Do you dream of me too?
