Scherzo

2026

Duration: 6’40”

Program Notes

Scherzo is a short bombastic piece rife with jokes and twists. It was originally conceived as the middle movement in a three movement work of “neo” pieces, each looking back at older styles and eras of music. The first movement utilized serialist techniques of the early 20th century, while the third movement emulated romantic composers of the 19th. This middle movement occupies an ambiguous space in between, courting both and committing to neither while finding humor within their contrast.
